Nanoparticles increases efficiency of bio-fuels

A recent research by an Indian Research indicated that the use of Alumina Nanoparticles can be helpful to improve the efficiency and combustion of bio-diesel.

The thinking behind this is that because of their high surface-to-volume ratio, the nanoparticles have more reactive surfaces, which allows them to have more reactivity and hence allowing them to act as more efficient chemical catalyst, which thus increases fuel combustion as told by R. B. Anand, an associate professor of mechanical engineering at the National Institute of Technology in Tiruchirappalli, India. This is because the more the surface area the more will be the reactivity and the chemical reaction will be more vigorous and fast. Also the presence of nanoparticles increases fuel-air mixing in the fuel, which leads to more complete burning.

In this research Anand and his colleague who is also involved in the research Co-author J. Sadhik Basha first used a mechanical agitator to create an emulsion consisting of jatropha biodiesel (a fuel derived from the crushed seeds of the jatropha plant), water, and a surfactant, which then blended in different proportions of alumina nanoparticles.

Afterwards it has been found that this has outstanding features over bio-fuel. The presence of nanoparticle significantly lowered the quantities of nitrogen oxide and carbon monoxide gases, and created less smoke. This finally helps in greater efficiency of bio-fuel.This research work has been published in the Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy

Use of Lasik Technolgy for treatment of Vision disorders

Lasik Technology is an effective technology being used by the surgeon these days. Lasik Technology included the treatment of various vision disorders like Hyperopia (long sightedness), Myopia (Short sightedness) and astigmatism.

Lasik technology has been discovered earlier in 1950’s, by the Spanish ophthalmologist Jose Barraquer. At that time he named it as Keratomileusis. Afterwards in 1989, an official U.S patent was granted to Dr. Gholam A. Peyman, as a "method for modifying corneal curvature".

Lasik surgery uses special kind of Laser. With the help of Laser a small flap or segment is being cut off in order to change the shape of the cornea. This process is completely painless. It takes very short time and both the eyes take only 15 minutes to operate.

Precautions after Surgery:

  • Patient must not move into sunlight for a couple of weeks.
  • Patients should use anti-biotic eye-drops as directed by doctors.
  • Patient should use sunglasses in bright light for couple of weeks after the operation.
  • Patient should not rub his eyes.
  • Patient should keep himself away from dirty spaces, as there are chances of allergy.
  • Patient should wash his/her eyes thrice a day.
Problems:

  • Dry eyes are a common problem which can be treated with the use of prescribed artificial tears.
  • Over or under-correction.
  • Light sensitivity.
  • Halos
  • Vitamin D deficiency.

Different types of Eye Problems-How to cure them

Common people have a mindset that weakness of eyes or lack of Vitamin-A are the only causes of specs. Eyes are like a camera. When the axial lengths of eyes are normal then the image of distant things falls at the right place. If the axial lengths of the eyes are 1mm greater than normal then, the person has to put up specs of -6.00D.

Opposite to this if, the axial length of the eyes are 1mm short than normal then the image get formed behind the retina. It can be treated with +6.00D specs. In third type of vision problems the focus of the image falls at two points on retina.  It is correctable by putting cylindrical lenses. People think that, if they can see things clearly then they don't need to have any specs.
When the vision problems are in smaller extent then their symptoms are:
  • Headache
  • Watering of eyes
  • Feeling stressed

There are basically three types of vision problems in scientific languages:
  1. Hyperopia (Long sightedness)
  2. Myopia (Short Sightedness)
  3. Astigmatism
 Hyperopia (Long sightedness):
Hyperopia or Long Sightedness is the vision problem in which one can see the things located very far but cannot see the things nearby.

Image Formation in case of Hyperopia

How to correct Hyperopia?

It can be corrected by the use of single vision convex lenses. Convex lenses helps correct the hyperopia. The way in which convex lenses works is being shown in the diagram below.

Myopia (Short Sightedness):

Myopia or Short sightedness is the vision problem in which one can see the things nearby but cannot see the things which are far.
Image formation in case of Myopia

How to correct Myopia?

It can be corrected by using concave lenses. Concave lenses help the retina to focus image of the objects at the right place. The actual diagram is given below.

Astigmatism:

Astigmatism is a kind of disease in which both the near and far located objects cannot be seen clearly. It is generally seen in persons greater than 40 years of age.

How to correct Astigmatism?

Astigmatism can be treated using by-focal lenses. It has two lenses combined together. The one of them enhances the nearby sight and the other with the far. It is made such that the patient can see the far located objects by the upper half of the lens and can see the nearby objects with the lower half. Bi-focal lenses are of different types and are given looking to the profession of the patient.

There are various other technologies these days to deal with such problems. Such an effective technology is Lasik Technology which is used to cure different eye problems with the help of  laser treatment. You can know more about it on another page. Credit Card -It's Uses and Features

You might have seen persons just picking a card with a lot of 8-10 cards in their purse standing in a queue, at any store or ticket counter. What these cards are actually which they are carrying? It’s Credit card. Now the question is that what is credit Card?

Credit Card is a card issued to a consumer by any Financial Company which provides the holder an option to borrow funds, pay bills. Credit Cards are used for short duration of financing, as after a month (in almost all the credit cards or nearby) from the date of payment done by that card, the company charges interest and that too at a very high rate. Also there is a pre-set limit of the amount which can be borrowed according to the card holder’s credit. A credit card is a thin plastic card, usually 3-1/8 inches by 2-1/8 inches in size that contains identification information such as a signature or picture, and authorizes the person named. The Credit Cards were first brought in use by the US during 1920’s at the time of First World War.

These Credit Cards can be of great use if used with intelligence but many of the people fails to do so and faces great interest by the finance company. Another very important use of Credit Cards is that it has recently become a very prominent proof of your identification. You can easily rent a car using that which is a basic requirement. It provides you a period of 30 days to pay the amount you have spend buying something or paying any bill before finance charges kick in.

But you would have definitely heard that idiom that “it’s easy to say and hard to implement”. The same happens here, the Credit Card holders use to carry a balance on their credit card from month to month, paying finance charges that can go up to a whopping 23 percent.

Nano Generator to generate free electricity in Future

In today’s world energy is a major requirement by all of us. In fact every portable device like laptops, radio and all requires electrical power and that comes with the help of batteries. But as Science is developing day by day, so in this advancement it has been seen that nano-wires which are not much expensive can produce a descent amount of electrical energy from mechanical energy. These can be done by running medical implants from pulsing blood vessels and our mobile phones can be charged using nanowires in the soles of shoes.

According to Zhong Lin Wang, Professor of materials science at Georgia Tech who is one of the prominent researchers of the work says that a lot of mechanical energy of our body like can be converted into electrical energy. The amounts of electrical energies produced by different movement of bodies are listed below. However, only 17-30% of the total can be converted in to use.

Movements
Electricity Produced (in watts)
Walking

It has been seen that a zinc oxide nanowire shows a very powerful piezoelectric effect. This is because the production of electricity is in response to mechanical pressure. In ordinary crystalline nanowires the positive and negative charges of Zinc and Oxygen ions respectively cancel out the charges of each other. Instead when the wires are chemically grown to stand on end on top of an electrode, it bend in response to any mechanical vibrations and as a result the ions are displaced and this results into mis-balance of charges. This misbalance in the charges among zinc and oxygen ions creates an electric field. Electricity can be produced putting up nanowires in the circuit.

But yet the electricity produced by a single nanowire is very small. Professor Wand says that, “arrangement of several nanowires simultaneously produces a great output which is enough to run a small medical implant. Wang also reported that, technology to harvest power from multiple nanowires has already been developed by him.

The making of these nanowires costs very less and it may be brought into practical life to use that nanowire generated electricity. According to Wang, “it’s made by putting polymer substrates at very low cost and their goal is to put those nanowires in the shoes of the people one day, so you can generate electricity when you're walking."

Learning the Mobile Language

Sometimes buying a mobile phone may leave you stressed. This is not because it's a so hard task to do, but it happens because now a days there are so many options present in the market that you get confused. The Mobile world has its own language. So telling you about those  common words that are used in Mobile world so that it would be easier for you to get it well.

3G:

This term is however common now as 3G has been implemented in use by all the cellular networks and currently mobiles are working on 3G in India. Basically 3G increases the speed as compared to 2G and that too 7 times. It features video calling, web browsing and multimedia. It is very fast and very useful as it increases the downloading speed as well as video clarity has also been improved.

Firmware:

It is the Software which runs your mobile. Firmware of your mobile cannot be changed and if then it may harm or damage your mobile phone. It can be upgraded. It is generally upgraded by visiting the mobile phone websites where you can easily get those latest software updates. This up-gradation to the latest software or firmware means you are much safer from bugs and will be working more better than previous ones.

Micro SD:

These are memory cards to enhance your mobile memory. So that you can store all the data you want into your mobile. This memory cards are fit inside the mobile set. Now a days mobiles which supports more data storage are preferred.

Roaming:

Roaming allows you to move freely all across the places even out of your country. It leaves you connected to network even you are out of your home place. earlier this service was chargeable but now a days there are no roaming charges. Charges will only be applied if you call or pick up calls or do message.

Java:

Java is widely used language in mobile phones these days. There is a reason behind it. The main reason is that it allows you to play games on your mobiles. Also many applications are built using Java. These are the reasons why Java has now become major mobile language.
